Oh Susanna!

We learned the song 'Oh Susanna'. It is a march. When soldiers were away at war they used to sing songs about their loved ones when they were marching. We marched around our classroom to the beat singing this song pretending to be soldiers! When we listened to the song we could hear a banjo playing along and even got to hold a real one and pluck the strings using a plectrum. We could feel the vibrations the strings made when we plucked them also! It was lots of fun!!

Strange Sounds!

We learned that sound is caused by vibrations which
travel through the air. Vibrations can be made by
blowing, banging and even plucking a string! We
felt the vibrations by talking into a balloon whilst
our partner held it up to their ears. We also made
some very strange sounds using different sized straws.
We cut the end of the straw in a point and put it in
our mouths and teacher told us to blow hard!
